Ontario Premierleague
Ontario Premier League (OPL) is Ontario’s semi-professional and standards based soccer league. It was established in 2014 (Formerly League1 Ontario), and continues to provide players with a crucial development platform, bridging the gap between high-level youth competition and professional leagues.
The league consists of three divisions with a promotion and relegation system between them. This structure allows clubs to ascend or descend based on their performance to ensure competitive balance and opportunities for growth.
Ontario Premier League is FIFA sanctioned through the Ontario Soccer Association and Canadian Soccer Association, and plays a vital role in Canada’s soccer development pathway.

Meet the coaches
OPL Coaching Staff
Duncan Wilde - OPL/Senior Soccer Coordinator (Men's)
Wilde’s coaching legacy continued with the Toronto Lynx Academy, which he co-owned with Billy Steele. Under their leadership, the academy achieved remarkable success in the Super Y League, reaching seven North American finals and producing numerous college and professional players. He also served as Head Coach of the Lynx USL Pro team and Academy Director, further shaping the Canadian soccer landscape. In 2015, Wilde and Steele re-established the Blue Devils FC, guiding them to a League1 Ontario Championship in their first season and leading the men’s team to a second championship in 2017. Wilde was named League1 Ontario Coach of the Year in both 2017 and 2019.
Billy Steele - OPL/Senior Soccer Assistant
Billy Steele, a former midfielder who had a promising playing career cut short by injury, has had a profound impact on Canadian soccer through his coaching achievements. After moving to Canada in 2001, Steele transitioned into coaching and, in 2004, joined the Toronto Lynx as Assistant Coach alongside his close friend Duncan Wilde. Together, they guided the Lynx to success in the USL Pro and USL/PDL leagues, while also helping to establish the Toronto Lynx Academy, which produced many talented players who advanced to college and professional careers.
In 2015, Steele and Wilde re-established Oakville Blue Devils FC as a League1 Ontario men’s team, achieving remarkable success right from the start. The team won the League1 Championship in their debut season and also secured the 2015 Inter-Provincial Championship. Their success continued with the men’s team capturing the 2017 League1 Ontario Championship and becoming the first League1 club to earn a berth in the Canadian Championship. The Blue Devils Academy, which was launched in 2017, grew into one of Canada’s top youth programs, with the men’s, women’s, and reserve teams all winning regular season championships in 2019. Steele’s leadership, alongside Wilde, has left an enduring legacy in Canadian soccer.
Ian Sinclair - U20 Head Coach/OPL3 Assistant Coach
Garrett Peters - OPL/Senior Soccer Coordinator (Women's)
Garrett’s coaching career is equally impressive. He led FC London to a record of 34 wins, 9 ties, and 12 losses, achieving two semi-finalist finishes and winning the 2024 L1 Cup. He was also recognized as the July 2024 Coach of the Month for his outstanding leadership. At McMaster University, he guided the Women’s Soccer team to a record of 17 wins, 5 ties, and 6 losses, culminating in a conference semi-final appearance and earning the title of OUA West Coach of the Year in 2023. With his extensive experience and dedication to developing athletes, Garrett Peters continues to make a significant impact in sport, inspiring the next generation of players.
